Fence Panel Replacement

Timber fencing in Ireland can be very prone to wet weather even after years of careful treatment and good quality care with quality sealants and resin, the maritime climate will pose challenges.

However, eventually it can be a good idea to change the panels as over the years with high winds, frost and inevitable rain, the timber can take a lot of punishment.

If you happen to have concrete H posts and pre-cast concrete plinths to compliment the wooden panels this job can be achieved a lot cheaper and quicker then others.

This job required a straight swap of the old weather beaten shiplap panels with newer ones. Luckily there was a local building suppliers with just the right size and style that the client desired.

The first step was to order the materials. For this job we were working with:

  • Shiplap Panels Dip Treated 1500mmx1800mm
  • Replacement Concrete H posts 2400mmx40mmx40mm
  • Concrete plinths 1800mmx30mm

Once the supplies had arrived on site, there was the preliminary job of clearing the workspace which can be time consuming as precision is very important when dealing with Concrete plinths. Ensure the surface area to the level of the top of the plinth is clear of debris before commencing removal.

Once the panels had been removed and the area was clear of debris and obstacles, it is a relatively straight forward job to install the new boards.

As you can see from the image, the site was quite clear as this client does not tend to let any items accumulate around the fence. This was a welcome change but from experience its important to know that its always likely to encounter challenges with any established fence in this kind of suburban estate dwelling with good shelter as the typical lifespan would be approximately 20 years.
